Hi, I’m Alison and I write New Life as New Wife.

I started "New Life as New Wife" in 2008 as a spin off to my wedding blog A Day in the life of a Rockstar Bride.

Like life, my blog has changed. My blog has now transitioned into the day-to-day challenges including how to save money, adjusting to life as a new home owner, and just recently, how to adjust to life after re-quitting my corporate job.

Prior to becoming a "grown-up", I spent the last 6 to 9 years as an IT professional, dance instructor and an awesome Rockstar wife.

Now, I walk dogs, teach yoga, teach dance and rockout as a the wife of a rockstar.

Well, I did it. I finally said "good riddance" to facebook. I say "finally" because I was planning on jumping ship in December, however, I made the mistake up setting up a profile for my side business forcing me to stick around longer.

Some of my friends have asked me why, where Robin has told me to stop trying to be an adult.

So here are some reasons why I decided to break up with Facebook.

1) I'm no longer the impulsive person I was 2 years ago. I no longer say "I have NO idea" when someone asks me what I plan to do next. I know what I want to do next as part of Alison the grownup and it's not waste hours stalking people on facebook. I rather focus that energy on building steady income to my planning business.

2) As much as Robin is rolling her eyes right now, I'm getting tired of seeing pre-teens/teenagers write crude comments on the Internet. These children have NO IDEA that what they say/post on the Internet is there FOREVER and that one day, their childhood stupidity may come back and bite them in the ass. And these judgment errors are not made by children only, but by adults who should know better.

Read here about how Facebook stupidity got one girl fired from her job.

3) Do I really want Joe Smith, someone who before facebook I didn't care much about and vice versa know everything I'm doing? Now, I know you are thinking "but you blog about everything", which is true, but this is a MUCH more controllable environment where I decide what pictures get posted and I monitor any comments. I could turn off the ability on facebook to disable pictures and the wall, but then what's the point. How many people do you know who've got caught "lying" because of facebook?

See here for an interesting article on facebook stalking.

4) There are other networking sites that work better for me and what I'm doing these days.
a - Twitter which is the perfect forum for me to see what others in my industry are up to and the trends out there. This is used primarily for my planning business as a way to market A Hot Pink Petticoat.

b - LinkedIn allows me to connect to others in my profession (project management) and stay connected "just in case" one day, I need these contacts. I can use this for the planning biz, but as of yet, I have not.

5) I want my time back. I want my husband's time back. Once we're in our new house, I want to focus time on that and looking after myself. Cooking, yoga, making a nice homestead for us. If I had it my way, I'd get my dear hubby off facebook. However, for his business (music) facebook is the best networking tool for him.

I'm sure this list can go on, but really, what's the point. I'm off facebook, and I couldn't be happier.
