Hi, I’m Alison and I write New Life as New Wife.

I started "New Life as New Wife" in 2008 as a spin off to my wedding blog A Day in the life of a Rockstar Bride.

Like life, my blog has changed. My blog has now transitioned into the day-to-day challenges including how to save money, adjusting to life as a new home owner, and just recently, how to adjust to life after re-quitting my corporate job.

Prior to becoming a "grown-up", I spent the last 6 to 9 years as an IT professional, dance instructor and an awesome Rockstar wife.

Now, I walk dogs, teach yoga, teach dance and rockout as a the wife of a rockstar.

Toss and turning

Saturday, March 26, 2011

Today was the day I set my alarm clock for 5am, got up to feed the dog 1/2 of his breakfast, and was semi-awake. Then I talked myself into getting back in bed, basically just wasting 45min because I didn't fall back sleep.  So I got up, and in 1.75 hours I accomplished the following:

* Enjoyed a nice cup of coffee and breakfast at the dining table (usually this is done in front of the computer or accomplished with a stop to Starbucks or Tim Horton's on the way to the dance studio)
* Went over my day planner to make sure I wasn't committed to something I may have forgotten and updated events I have planned. Oh ya Robin, we need to talk about a day off :)
* Read my mail. You know, the stuff that gets delivered by Canada Post? To be honest, I usually just toss most of them directly into the recycling bin as it's usually paper statements which I can view online.
* Fed Seamus the 2nd half of his breakfast. Sidenote: My boss picked Seamus up this AWESOME portion pacer to help slow down his inhalation of food. He went from 30 seconds to a 3 minute meal last night. He also didn't burp in my face right after (which I thought was nice of him).
* Started to read something re my car insurance, and stopped because it was annoying me. Can't they make anything simple? Don't worry mom, I did read it.
* Caught up on my social media outlets (email, facebook, forums, blogs etc)
* Wrote this blog post and played around with my picture for this post
* Did not watch Jersey Shore (i watched it last night instead)

I also re-read this blog post by Leo Babauta 10 Benefits of Rising Early, and How to Do It and one benefit he stated was:
Goal time. Got goals? Well, you should. And there’s no better time to review them and plan for them and do your goal tasks than first thing. You should have one goal that you want to accomplish this week. And every morning, you should decide what one thing you can do today to move yourself further towards that goal. And then, if possible, do that first thing in the morning. (source)
I need goals. Legit goals!! My goal over the next week it to create personal goals that I can work on and feel super bad-ass about accomplishing.

Not bad for 105 minutes. Sure I could have done all that in 45 minutes or less, but I like that I was not rushed and took my time.

It's now 730am, and I don't have to leave the house for another 90 minutes, so the plan is to:

* Take Seamus for a run (meaning he runs, and I watch him)
* Take a shower and dry my hair (this is BIG!! Not the shower part, the drying my hair part. I do this once a month ... maybe)
